Universal Identity

Your identity in FarFISH is simple: your wallet address. This wallet-based identity works across all FarFISH applications automatically, with a long-term vision for broader identity portability.

Current Identity Model

Your Wallet is Your Account

FarFISH uses wallet-based identity:

  • Your Ethereum wallet address (0x...) is your unique identifier
  • No username, password, or email required
  • Same wallet = same account across all FarFISH apps
  • Identity is portable (works anywhere Web3 wallets are supported)

Example wallet address:

text
0x1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef12345678

This 42-character address is globally unique and permanently yours.

Display Identity: RefCode

For sharing and display, FarFISH uses the last 8 characters of your wallet:

Full address:

text
0x1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef12345678

RefCode (last 8 chars):

text
12345678

This becomes your shareable referral code and display identifier. It's deterministic-always the same for your wallet-and easier to share than the full 42 characters.

Collision potential: Using the last 8 characters means approximately 1 in 4.3 billion chance of two addresses sharing the same code. In practice, this is rare enough not to cause issues.

How Identity Works Across Apps

Automatic Account Recognition

When you connect your wallet to any FarFISH app:

  1. First time anywhere:

    • System creates your account automatically
    • Your refCode is registered
    • Leaderboard position initialized at 0
    • Ready to use immediately
  2. Returning to same app:

    • Wallet connection restores your session
    • All progress visible instantly
    • No login process needed
  3. First time in a different app:

    • System recognizes your wallet
    • All progress from other apps visible
    • Same leaderboard position
    • Same referral history

No manual account linking needed. The wallet address is the universal key.

Cross-App Example

Scenario: Using Multiple FarFISH Apps

  1. Monday: You connect wallet 0xABC...5678 to Web App

    • Mint an NFT
    • Make 3 referrals
    • Leaderboard score: 4 (80 FRH)
  2. Tuesday: You open Base App with the same wallet

    • Your minted NFT appears (read from blockchain)
    • Your referral count shows 3 (read from backend)
    • Your leaderboard position is rank #42 (same data)
    • You stake your NFT
  3. Wednesday: You open Farcaster Mini App with same wallet

    • Your staked NFT shows as "Staked" (read from blockchain)
    • Leaderboard still shows rank #42
    • Make another referral → now 4 total
  4. Thursday: Back to Web App

    • Referral count: 4 (updated across all apps)
    • NFT status: Staked (blockchain state)
    • Leaderboard: Updated rank based on new referral

Synchronization: Instant. No delays, no manual syncing.

Identity Properties

Unique

Every Ethereum address is unique. No two people can have the same address.

Guaranteed by:

  • Cryptographic address generation
  • Astronomically low collision probability (2^160 possible addresses)

Immutable

You cannot change your wallet address.

What this means:

  • Your identity is permanent
  • Your refCode is permanent (derived from address)
  • History associated with your address persists

Important: You can create new wallets, but each has its own identity. There's no way to "merge" two wallet identities in FarFISH.

Portable

Your wallet works across the entire Web3 ecosystem, not just FarFISH.

Use cases:

  • Same wallet for FarFISH, Uniswap, OpenSea, etc.
  • DeFi, gaming, NFTs all with one identity
  • Cross-platform reputation building (future vision)

Private

Your wallet address doesn't reveal your real-world identity.

Privacy characteristics:

  • No name, email, or personal info required
  • Pseudonymous by default
  • Can be linked to identity if you choose (ENS names, social profiles)

Note: All blockchain transactions are public. Anyone can see your wallet's transaction history on block explorers.

Privacy tip: Use separate wallets for different activities if you want to keep them unlinked. FarFISH doesn't require connecting your "main" wallet-any wallet works.

Account Types Supported

FarFISH works with standard Ethereum-compatible wallets:

Standard Wallets (EOA - Externally Owned Accounts)

Examples:

  • MetaMask
  • Coinbase Wallet
  • Trust Wallet
  • Rainbow Wallet

How they work:

  • You control a private key
  • Private key generates your address
  • You sign transactions with your private key

Smart Wallets

Examples:

  • Coinbase Smart Wallet (supported in Base App)
  • Argent
  • Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe)

How they work:

  • Your account is a smart contract on the blockchain
  • More features (social recovery, spending limits)
  • Still generates a unique address you control

Coinbase Smart Wallet: The Base App is specifically optimized for Coinbase Smart Wallet, offering enhanced features for users in the Coinbase ecosystem.

WalletConnect

Not a wallet itself, but a protocol to connect mobile wallets to web apps:

Supported in:

  • Web App
  • Base App
  • Mini App (uses Farcaster's embedded wallet)

How it works:

  • Scan QR code with mobile wallet app
  • Mobile wallet signs transactions
  • Web interface displays your account

All connection methods result in the same identity: your wallet address.

Identity Without Registration

FarFISH has no traditional signup:

No registration form:

  • No email verification
  • No password creation
  • No username selection
  • No captcha or phone verification

Just connect your wallet:

  • One click/tap
  • Instant account creation
  • Immediate access to all features

Benefits:

  • Faster onboarding (seconds, not minutes)
  • No forgotten passwords
  • No email spam
  • No personal data to protect

Trade-off:

  • You're responsible for wallet security
  • Lost seed phrase = lost account
  • No "password reset" option

Responsibility: With no email or password, your seed phrase is the ONLY way to recover access. Back it up securely and never share it.

Vision: Universal Identity Protocol (UIP)

The current wallet-based identity is functional but simple. FarFISH's long-term vision includes Universal Identity Protocol (UIP), a richer identity layer.

Current Status: Foundation in Place

What works today:

  • ✅ Wallet-based identity across all FarFISH apps
  • ✅ Automatic account recognition
  • ✅ Cross-app progress tracking
  • ✅ Referral history tied to wallet

Future Vision: Enhanced Identity

Planned capabilities (not yet implemented):

Richer Identity:

  • Profile customization beyond wallet address
  • Verified credentials and achievements
  • Social connections and relationships
  • Portable reputation across platforms

Cross-Platform Integration:

  • Identity recognized beyond FarFISH
  • Interoperable with other Web3 apps
  • Reputation aggregation from multiple sources
  • Universal profile for Web3 ecosystem

Privacy Controls:

  • Selective disclosure of identity attributes
  • Granular permission management
  • Zero-knowledge proofs for verification
  • User-controlled data sharing

UIP is a future proposal: Universal Identity Protocol represents FarFISH's vision for the evolution of Web3 identity. It is not currently implemented. Today's wallet-based identity is the working foundation.

Why UIP Matters

Current problem:

  • Each Web3 app treats you as a new user
  • Reputation doesn't transfer between platforms
  • No way to verify achievements cross-platform
  • Identity fragmented across many apps

UIP vision:

  • Build reputation once, use everywhere
  • Verified identity without doxxing
  • Achievements recognized across ecosystem
  • True identity portability

Timeline: UIP is a long-term vision. Implementation depends on ecosystem-wide standards and adoption.

Practical Identity Management

Using Multiple Wallets

You can connect different wallets to FarFISH, but each has separate identity:

Scenario: You have two wallets

  • Wallet A (0xAAA...):

    • 10 referrals
    • Rank #50
    • 5 NFTs staked
  • Wallet B (0xBBB...):

    • 2 referrals
    • Rank #500
    • 1 NFT minted

These are completely separate accounts. There's no way to merge them.

Recommendation: Choose one primary wallet for FarFISH to build unified reputation.

Switching Wallets

You can switch wallets within the app:

  1. Disconnect current wallet
  2. Connect different wallet
  3. App now shows different account's data

Use case: Managing multiple accounts or testing with different wallets.

Identity Recovery

If you lose access to your wallet:

  • ❌ FarFISH cannot restore access (non-custodial)
  • ❌ No email recovery option
  • ✅ If you have your seed phrase, import to new wallet app
  • ✅ Blockchain assets are tied to wallet, not wallet app

Prevention:

  • Securely backup seed phrase
  • Consider hardware wallet for valuable holdings
  • Test recovery process with small amount first
