On-Chain Layer
The on-chain layer is where your real assets live. Every NFT you own, every token you earn, and every staking position you hold is secured by the Base blockchain.
What Lives On-Chain
NFT Ownership
Your FarFISH NFTs are recorded on the Base blockchain using the ERC-1155 standard.
What this means for you:
- Your NFTs exist in your wallet, not on FarFISH's servers
- Ownership is cryptographically proven and immutable
- You can transfer NFTs to other wallets anytime
- Compatible with standard Web3 wallets and marketplaces
NFT Collection:
- 16 unique token types organized by rarity
- Weighted random minting for fair distribution
- Each NFT type yields different staking rewards
For rarity tiers and rewards, see NFT System Guide.
For contract addresses and technical details, see Smart Contract Addresses.
Staking Positions
When you stake an NFT, the blockchain records the lock:
On-chain data:
- Which NFT is staked (token ID and quantity)
- When you staked it (timestamp)
- How long it's locked (30, 90, 180, or 360 days)
- What reward you'll receive (calculated at staking time)
- Whether you've claimed the reward
Non-custodial staking: The NFT moves from your wallet to the staking contract, but only you can unstake it. FarFISH cannot transfer your staked NFTs to other addresses.
Token Balances
FRH is an ERC-20 token on Base. Your balance is tracked on-chain.
Token uses:
- Referral rewards (20 FRH per successful referral)
- Daily chest rewards (3 FRH bronze, 6 FRH silver)
- Staking rewards (varies by rarity and lock duration)
- Leaderboard incentives
Transferability: FRH tokens are standard ERC-20, meaning you can send them to other addresses or use them in other Base protocols (if supported).
Claim Cooldowns
Daily reward cooldowns are enforced on-chain:
Bronze Chest: 24 hours between claims Silver Chest: 24 hours between claims + requires active stake
The blockchain prevents double-claiming by storing your last claim timestamp. No amount of UI manipulation can bypass this.
Blockchain enforcement: Cooldowns and rewards aren't just displayed in the UI-they're hardcoded into smart contracts. The rules are guaranteed by code, not trust.
Why Base Blockchain?
FarFISH chose Base Mainnet for several practical reasons:
Low Transaction Costs
Typical fees:
- NFT minting: ~$0.01 to $0.20
- Staking/unstaking: ~$0.05 to $0.16
- Token transfers: ~$0.01 to $0.05
- Daily chest claims: ~$0.05 to $0.20
These costs are 100-200x cheaper than Ethereum mainnet, making frequent interactions affordable.
Fast Confirmations
Transaction speed:
- Block time: ~2 seconds
- Typical confirmation: 2-5 seconds
- No lengthy waiting for actions to process
Compare this to Ethereum mainnet's 12-second blocks and occasional congestion delays.
Ethereum Security
Base is a Layer 2 rollup that inherits Ethereum's security:
- Transactions batch and settle to Ethereum mainnet
- Cryptographic proofs ensure validity
- Long-term security guaranteed by Ethereum consensus
- If Base ever shuts down, you can still recover your assets via Ethereum
Wide Compatibility
Base uses the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM):
- Works with MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, WalletConnect
- Uses the same smart contract language (Solidity)
- Compatible with existing Web3 tools and infrastructure
- Easy onboarding for Ethereum users
For network details including RPC endpoints and explorers, see Network Information.
How Smart Contracts Work
FarFISH uses four separate smart contracts on Base:
NFT Drop Contract (ERC-1155)
Purpose: Multi-token NFT collection with minting logic
Key operations:
- Mint NFTs - Weighted random selection from available supply
- Check balances - Query token ownership by ID
- Transfer NFTs - Standard ERC-1155 transfers and approvals
Weighted minting: The system prioritizes NFTs with higher remaining supply, preventing sell-outs of popular types while others have excess inventory.
Staking Contract
Purpose: Lock NFTs to earn rewards
Key operations:
- Stake - Lock NFT for chosen duration (30/90/180/360 days)
- Unstake - Withdraw NFT after lock period expires
- Claim rewards - Collect FRH tokens earned from staking
- Check positions - View all your active stakes
No penalties: You can unstake any time after the lock period. There are no early withdrawal penalties because early withdrawal isn't possible-the contract enforces the lock.
FRH Token Contract (ERC-20)
Purpose: Token distribution
Key operations:
- Check balance - See how many FRH tokens you hold
- Transfer - Send tokens to other addresses
- Approve spending - Allow contracts to distribute rewards to you
Standard ERC-20: FRH follows the widely-adopted ERC-20 standard, making it compatible with wallets, exchanges, and DeFi protocols.
Claim Controller Contract
Purpose: Daily reward system with cooldown enforcement
Key operations:
- Claim Bronze Chest - 3 FRH every 24 hours (no requirements)
- Claim Silver Chest - 6 FRH every 24 hours (requires active stake)
- Check cooldowns - See when next claim is available
On-chain verification: The contract checks the staking contract to verify you have an active stake before allowing Silver Chest claims.
For complete contract addresses and ABIs, see Smart Contract Addresses.
Transaction Security
User Approval Required
Every blockchain transaction requires explicit wallet approval:
- You click an action in FarFISH (mint, stake, claim)
- Your wallet shows transaction details
- You review and approve (or reject)
- Transaction submits to Base blockchain
- Confirmation returns in 2-5 seconds
Your private keys never leave your wallet. FarFISH cannot submit transactions on your behalf.
What You See in Your Wallet
When approving transactions, your wallet shows:
- Contract address - Which smart contract you're interacting with
- Function name - What action is being performed
- Parameters - Specific values (token ID, quantity, duration)
- Gas cost - How much the transaction will cost
Always verify these details match your intended action.
Review before signing: Phishing attacks often rely on users blindly approving transactions. Always check that the contract address matches FarFISH's official contracts.
NFT Approval Mechanism
Before staking, you must approve the staking contract to manage your NFTs:
One-time approval:
- First time staking, you'll see two transactions
- First transaction: Approve staking contract for all your NFTs
- Second transaction: Actual stake operation
After approval:
- Future stakes only require one transaction
- Approval persists until you revoke it
- You can revoke approval anytime from your wallet
Security consideration: Approval allows the staking contract to transfer your NFTs. Only approve contracts you trust. FarFISH's staking contract is specifically designed to only allow the owner to unstake.
Blockchain as Source of Truth
When there's a conflict between what the UI shows and what the blockchain says, the blockchain is always correct.
Examples:
- UI says "No NFTs" but blockchain shows you own one → Refresh the UI
- UI allows claiming but transaction fails → Cooldown enforced on-chain
- Off-chain leaderboard shows high score → Doesn't affect on-chain token balance
The blockchain is:
- ✅ Immutable (past transactions cannot change)
- ✅ Transparent (anyone can verify on Base block explorer)
- ✅ Trustless (enforced by code, not operators)
- ✅ Composable (works with other Web3 protocols)
Verify on-chain: You can always check your true NFT ownership, token balance, and staking positions by viewing your wallet address on BaseScan.
Performance and Cost
Read Operations (Free)
Checking blockchain state costs nothing:
- View NFT balances
- Check staking positions
- See token balances
- Query claim cooldowns
These queries return in 100-500 milliseconds depending on network latency.
Write Operations (Gas Required)
Actions that change blockchain state require gas:
| Action | Typical Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Mint NFT | $0.10 - $0.20 | 2-5 sec |
| Approve staking | $0.10 - $0.15 | 2-5 sec |
| Stake NFT | $0.10 - $0.16 | 2-5 sec |
| Unstake NFT | $0.08 - $0.15 | 2-5 sec |
| Claim staking rewards | $0.05 - $0.12 | 2-5 sec |
| Claim daily chest | $0.08 - $0.20 | 2-5 sec |
| Transfer tokens | $0.03 - $0.08 | 2-5 sec |
Gas costs fluctuate with network activity but remain affordable on Base.
Reliability and Redundancy
FarFISH connects to Base through multiple providers:
Four-tier fallback system:
- Official Base RPC (primary)
- PublicNode RPC (backup)
- OnFinality RPC (backup)
- LlamaRPC (backup)
If one provider is down or slow, the system automatically tries the next. This ensures 99.9%+ uptime for blockchain interactions.
Security Considerations
Smart Contract Risk
The primary security concern for on-chain assets is smart contract vulnerabilities.
Potential risks:
- Bugs in staking logic could lock NFTs permanently
- Vulnerabilities in claim controller could be exploited
- Token contract flaws could affect distribution
Mitigation:
- Multisig governance protects protocol-controlled funds
- Only stake amounts you can afford to lock
- Start with smaller amounts until confidence is established
Professional smart contract audits are recommended before large-scale adoption.
Network Risk
If Base blockchain experiences issues:
What still works:
- Off-chain features (leaderboard, referrals)
- Viewing existing positions in UI
What doesn't work:
- New NFT mints
- Staking/unstaking operations
- Reward claims
- Any transaction requiring blockchain confirmation
Historical precedent: Layer 2 networks have proven reliable, but outages are possible. The four-tier RPC fallback minimizes this risk.
Layer 2 security model: Base uses optimistic rollups, meaning transactions are assumed valid unless proven otherwise. A seven-day challenge period exists for finality, though this doesn't affect normal usage.
Next Steps
- Review complete threat analysis in Security Model
- Check contract addresses in Smart Contract Addresses
- Use the API Overview for the current integration surface
